An early-morning shooting in which the victim told a 911 dispatcher at 4:10 a.m. that he had accidentally shot himself is now being classified as an attempted suicide.
Deputies from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office who investigated the incident made the determination after speaking to the man, who initially told a dispatcher he had shot himself in the abdomen with a .22 pistol.
The incident took place on Trail 275 on Shaw Mountain Road. Deputies drove the man down the road until they were met by paramedics. A Life Flight aircraft flew in but could not land due to the terrain.
The man was taken by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to a release from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
