Starting Oct. 6, Allegiant Airlines plans to begin nonstop service between Boise and the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, located about 25 miles east of the Phoenix area’s largest airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The flight will operate twice weekly on Fridays and Mondays, the Boise Airport announced Tuesday. The new service brings the Boise Airport’s total number of nonstop destinations to 21. At its peak before the Great Recession, the airport served 22 nonstop destinations.
Allegiant began operating out of Boise in 2012. The airline currently offers nonstops to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway is located in Mesa, Arizona’s third-largest city just east of Phoenix with a population of almost 500,000. The Allegiant flight there gives Boise a third option for quick access to the Phoenix area, one of the most populated metro areas in the country.
American Airlines and Southwest Airlines both fly nonstops to Phoenix Sky Harbor.
