A 21-year-old Meridian man was pulled from a vehicle that had crashed into a pond off of Idaho 16 near Chinden Boulevard late Tuesday morning, according to Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

He was identified as Joseph A. Klonowski and was pronounced dead at 1:07 p.m., according to an Ada County Coroner report.

Klonowski had been heading south in a pickup truck on 16 around 11:30 a.m. when witnesses said it went off the road, the sheriff’s office reported earlier in the day. It appeared the driver was alone, and divers didn’t find anyone else near the vehicle, according to ACSO.

Crews removed the GMC truck from the pond, but no information was released about how the truck ended up in the pond. Klonowski had appeared slumped over in his vehicle before it went into the water, according to the coroner’s report.
