A fire burning near Stanley Lake was about 50 acres by Saturday evening and had shut down area campgrounds and roads, according to Julie Thomas, spokeswoman for the Sawtooth National Forest.

The fire, called the Dry Creek Fire, reported around 2 p.m., jumped Idaho 21 near Elk Creek, prompting a highway closure that blocked off the last access route to Lowman after the long-burning Pioneer Fire closed other routes.

Thomas said numerous aircraft were en route to the blaze Saturday evening, along with seven engines.

“There are a lot of opportunities to catch this fire,” Thomas said, citing marshes in the area. “Hopefully this won’t be a Pioneer.”
