Police seek public’s help in search for Sawtooths hiker

Police are seeking the public’s help in their search for a missing hiker.

“Anyone who may have been hiking in the Queens River area, Pinchot Mountain, Elk Lake, Blacknose Mountain and Benedict Lake areas between June 13th and June 22nd, 2016 that saw a single hiker, please contact the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 587- 2100,” the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.

The hiker, whose identity has not been released, entered the Sawtooths via the Queens River trailhead close to Atlanta but did not return as planned.

The hiker’s last location was recorded via the hiker’s satellite beacon on June 15, according to authorities.

The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 8:40 p.m. on June 17 about an overdue hiker. Since then, multiple search crews have looked for the hiker in the Queens River area.

Search organizations so far have included state, local and federal groups. Sheriff’s offices and search-and-rescue teams from Elmore County, Twin Falls County and Blaine County have combed the area, as part of a coordinated effort between Elmore and Boise County sheriff’s offices, the Wednesday news release said.
