A motorcyclist was injured and sent to the hospital after colliding with an elk on Highway 21 Tuesday morning, according to Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported at about 6:30 a.m. about a mile from Hilltop Station, according to the sheriff’s office release.
The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet, and driving west when he struck an elk. He was thrown off the motorcycle and the elk died from the impact, according to the release.
Witnesses of the crash said the motorcyclist was driving safely, and even a little bit under the speed limit. Alcohol was not a factor, according to the sheriff’s office.

The motorcyclist was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
But, the sheriff’s office warned drivers to be extra careful and look out for wildlife, especially in the early morning and evening. There likely will be an increase in wildlife roaming along the highway as we move into fall.
