A 64-year-old Washington man died and four others in a GMC Yukon were injured Tuesday afternoon when the SUV hit a guardrail on westbound Interstate 84 east of Boise, then rolled into the median and down an embankment, Idaho State Police report.
A 16-year-old girl was driving the Yukon about 1:15 p.m. when it went over the top of the left guardrail near Milepost 68, according to an ISP news release.
Kenneth Powers of Yakima, Wash., died at the scene of the crash. Linda Brown, 59, of Yakima and one juvenile were transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Two other juveniles were taken to that hospital by ground ambulance, ISP reports.
All of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, ISP reports.
Westbound I-84 lanes were at least partially blocked for almost three hours while crews worked to clear the scene. The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
