New Ada County Sheriff Stephen Bartlett took the oath of office Tuesday morning, then took it again in the afternoon.
Outgoing Sheriff Gary Raney did the honors at the afternoon’s ceremonial swearing-in. After the oath, friends, family and colleagues filed by to wish Bartlett well.
Ada County Commissioners selected Bartlett unanimously in early June to replace Raney, who is leaving mid-term to take a job with the U.S. Department of Justice. Since joining the Ada County Sheriff's office in 2003, Bartlett has served in varied positions, including patrol field commander, sergeant in charge of detectives, crisis negotiator and Eagle police chief.
