Owyhee County was hit by two different wildfires Saturday, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
At about 2:45 p.m. BLM responded to a call of a fire burning east of Highway 95 around mile marker 17. Three single engine air tankers and a Type 1 helicopter helped BLM and Murual Rural Fire Department fight the fire, dubbed the Elephant Fire. It burned about 150 acres, but crews expect to contain the flames by 8 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but BLM believes it was started by an unattended campfire.
Another fire near Murphy was called in around 1:30 p.m. The fire was contained to 7 acres and it’s expected to be completely under control by 7 p.m.
