Ready to dive into summer? Boise city pools have opened

School is out for the summer, and Boise pools are open.

City pools opened at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Kids and adults were already queued up at Borah Pool, and the kids were counting down the seconds until the doors opened.

Ali Karner, 13, was first in line at Borah Pool, and she was flanked by her two best friends.

“We come every day,” she said of her neighborhood pool. “They call us pool rats.”

She said Borah is favorite pool, not just because it’s close to her home, but also because the water is “the perfect temperature.” Tuesday wasn’t a hot day – just 72 when the pool opened – but none of the kids seemed to mind.

A teenage boy at the pool asked his friend if he brought sunscreen.

“We’re going to roast, dude,” he said.

Unfortunately, the city’s Web site went down at about 1:15 p.m., and it impacted all of the city’s pools just as the first swimmers of the season arrived. Cash and checks were accepted, and those who had only plastic were allowed in anyway.

“I just wasn’t going to turn people away,” Boise acquatics coordinator Paula Ekins said.

The city’s Web site was still down after 6 p.m., and no information was available on when it would be restored.

Here’s a list of city pools, with links to more info.
