Police: Meridian suspect reportedly eludes officers, chokes police dog

Meridian Police Department arrested a man wanted on a warrant after he reportedly choked a police dog Thursday.

Nathan Allen, 25, of Meridian was wanted on a $50,000 warrant for eluding police, according to the Meridian Police Department.

Early on Thursday officers attempted to arrest Allen, but he fled the scene, police said. This led to a brief lockdown of Peregrine Elementary School, police said.

At about 8:30 p.m. officers located Allen near South Meridian and Overland roads and tried to arrest him again, but he ran off. A police dog apprehended the suspect, but he reportedly tried to fight the animal and choke it, according to MPD.

Allen was arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing officers, abuse of a police dog, attempting to elude police officers, possession of drug paraphernalia and drug possession.
