Inmate accused of attacking staff member at local prison, leading to 7-hour standoff

An inmate at the Idaho State Correctional Institution is accused of assaulting a staff member Thursday morning before engaging in a nearly seven hour standoff with authorities.

Justin Milo Beeson, 49, reportedly assaulted the individual at around 11:40 a.m. and proceeded to barricade himself in a classroom, according to the Idaho Department of Correction. Beeson, who has been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder since October 1986, spoke with Idaho Department of Correction Crisis Negotiations Team before eventually surrendering at 6:30 p.m.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

The injured staff member had minor injuries and was treated and released from a Boise hospital.
