Teenager dies after water rescue at popular Boise swimming pond

A 15-year-old boy has died after firefighters and police pulled him from a popular Boise swimming pond on Friday evening, according to a Boise Police Department press release.

Officials on Friday said the boy was swimming at Quinn’s Pond with friends when he went underwater. Twenty-three minutes after they were dispatched, first responders pulled the teenager from the pond. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to a hospital, but his condition was not known Friday night.

Police on Saturday did not offer details on when the boy died. BPD spokeswoman Haley Williams said it didn’t appear the boy knew how to swim. He was not wearing a life preserver, officials said Friday.

Parks and Recreation offers free personal flotation devices at Quinn’s Pond, Williams added.

The boy has not yet been identified.
