Coroner working to identify body of man found on island in Boise River

The Ada County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the body of an adult man found on a small island in the Boise River on Monday night, according to Ada County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Patrick Orr.

Officials found the body after a caller reported possibly seeing human remains on the small piece of land west of Willow Lane around 7 p.m. on Monday.

Garden City Police Department and Boise Fire Rescue responded, but it soon became too dark to safely continue working at the scene. Tuesday morning, the coroner removed the remains — said to be “in an advanced state of decomposition” — from the island.

The coroner’s office had a tentative ID on the individual on Tuesday afternoon, Orr said, but it wasn’t immediately clear how the man died or how long he had been dead.

It’s the second body found in the Boise River in recent days.
