A grass fire started Thursday at Kuna Mora and Cole roads and by 8 p.m., it had stretched over 280 acres.

It remained at that size and was contained at 11 p.m., a Bureau of Land Management fire spokesman said Friday.

The York Fire burned on state land, under BLM jurisdiction, plus private land. No structures were damaged

It has been named the York Fire and about 30 personnel are currently on scene, including seven engines, one helicopter and one air attack. The fire was expected to be contained by 11 p.m.

The fire was burning less than five miles from the Idaho State Correctional Center and close to the Idaho Correctional Alternative Placement Program. An Idaho Department of Correction spokesman said an IDOC fire crew was ready to respond if needed, but it didn’t prove necessary.
