Nampa fire chief’s condition improves after accident; investigation continues

Idaho State Police are investigating an accident last Saturday in which Nampa Fire Chief Karl Malott rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu while riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The speed at which Malott was going, and whether alcohol was involved are still under investigation, said Sgt. Jens Pattis, who is conducting the investigation.

Malott rear ended the car, driven by 58-year-old Juanita Sarceda of Nampa, at Interstate 84 near the Sand Hollow Exit, according to police.

Authorities said he was not wearing a helmet. He was listed in serious condition at St. Alphonsus hospital in Boise on Saturday, Sept. 24. He is now listed in fair condition.

Sarceda and her passenger, 56-year-old Marta Villareal, were uninjured.
