Fundraiser for library in memory of Boise boy who drowned reaches goal

Moshit Mizrachi-Gabbitas and Chuck Gabbitas have reached their goal of raising $50,000 to build a children’s library at the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Idaho in Boise.

The library will be in honor of their son, Ilai Mizrachi-Gabbitas, who drowned on Aug. 9 shortly before his sixth birthday.

The goal was to raise the money by Sept. 9, the Shloshim, or 30th day from Ilai’s funeral.

Hundreds of community donations contributed to the effort. The last donation, for $52, was from Patricia Nilsson who wrote, “Woohoo you made the goal! What a wonderful project to honor Ilai!”

Moshit Mizarachi-Gabbitas and Chuck Gabbitas are the owners of Janjou Patisserie in Boise.
