The Flip Flop Shops store in the Boise Towne Square mall is closing this week.

The store has been located on the second level of the shopping center, near JCPenney. It opened in 2011 as the chain’s first locally owned franchise store in Idaho.

“We loved the business and our customers, but we just had several years of decreasing sales, to the point where we can no longer finance the business,” said co-owner Dustin Preece on Thursday.

He said online shopping seems to have been “a big factor” in the declining sales.

Most of the inventory has been sold in liquidation sales over the past few weeks, he said. The official closing date is not set, but he expects to close by Sunday.

Preece said the store had one full-time and four part-time employees.

“Some of our employees have worked for us since we opened” five years ago, Preece said. “Having to let those individuals go has been heartbreaking.”
