Ideal Demolition Services began tearing down the longtime Boise store on Wednesday morning.
The store was first opened in Boise by William K. Dunkley in 1950 and has been at its Capitol Boulevard location since 1961. Its current owner is Dunkley’s son, Mark.
A 10-story Residence Inn Marriott will be built on the spot. It’s expected to open in 18 to 20 months.
While the store in Downtown Boise is no more, the Dunkley Music business lives on. It has moved to a new location at 3410 N. Eagle Road in Meridian, near the Eagle and Ustick intersection.
The new store offered a more central location to reach customers throughout the Treasure Valley, and it is larger with more parking.
The Dunkleys have sold and rented instruments and taught music classes for decades. Watch a Statesman video of the demolition and see then-and-now photos of the store, below.
‘Then’ photos are provided by Sarah Zwygart on behalf of the Dunkleys; ‘now’ photos were shot this week by Statesman photographer Kyle Green, prior to the demolition.
