The Idaho Attorney General’s Office announced that two publishing companies that sent misleading magazine renewal notices to Idaho residents were ordered to cease all business in the state.
Under the settlement, which was approved by a judge on Monday, Liberty Publishers Service Inc and Orbital Publishing Group Inc. agreed to end the practice of mailing renewal offers to subscribers who believed the high-priced offers were coming from magazine publishers. Complaints from consumers feeling they were misled date back several years, according to the release.
The companies are also prohibited from collecting debts from magazine or newspaper subscriptions.
The companies operated under the following business names: Allied Publishers Services; Associated Publishers Network; Associated Publishers Services; Magazine Billing Network; Publishers Billing Association; Publishers Billing Exchange; Publishers Distribution Services; Publishers Periodical Services; Publishers Service Exchange; and United Publishers Services.
