The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed $24,200 in fines to a Titan Technologies Inc. after finding the Boise contractor violated safety rules for the third time in four years.
The most recent violations followed an OSHA inspection in January when Titan Technologies workers were replacing a sewer on 45th Street in Boise, according to the violation notice. Employees were working in trenches as deep as eight feet in trenches where soil fissuring on one wall and standing water were present, violating rules intended to protect workers from trench cave-ins. The company failed to make sure a "competent person" responsible for inspecting safety conditions checked the trenches before employees entered, the violation said.
OSHA levied fines of $2,200 for the violation and an additional $22,000 for the repeat offense. Titan Technologies has 15 days to appeal the proposed violations. A company representative declined to comment.
OSHA cited Titan Technologies for similar violations following inspection of a Boise worksite in 2012 Benewah County site in 2014.
