Boise-based WinCo Foods opens 100th store

Boise-based WinCo Foods will open its 100th store in Lewisville, Texas, this week.

It is the fifth WinCo Foods store to open in Texas. The 83,000-square-foot store will initially employ about 150 people, most of whom were hired from the Lewisville area.

WinCo was founded in Boise in 1967. The grocery chain is employee owned and has grown rapidly in recent years, beyond its original locations in states surrounding Idaho. It currently employs about 15,000 people in eight states and operates five distribution centers.
