U.S. Ecology, a Boise company that handles and disposes of hazardous waste, said net income totaled $5.9 million in the quarter ending March 31, compared with $9.4 million a year earlier.
But total revenue was $136.7 million, up from $53.4 million, because of acquisitions. Revenue from acquisitions accounted for $84.7 million in the first quarter of this year, as well as higher expenses, the company said.
Gross profit was $39.8 million, up from $22.1 million.
“Despite adverse weather conditions impacting eastern North America, U.S. Ecology delivered a strong quarter in line with our expectations,” CEO Jeff Feeler said. “As we progress through the year, we expect to deliver sequentially stronger quarterly financial performance.”
