Reports: Smith & Wesson will buy Gemtech, Eagle maker of gun silencers

Firearms business Smith & Wesson Corp. is set to purchase Idaho’s Gemini Technologies, known as Gemtech, according to Ammoland Shooting Sports News, Zacks Equity Research and other online reports.

Gemtech, based in Eagle, is one of the world’s leading companies for design and sales of gun silencers. The company could not confirm the sale to the Statesman on Friday, referring questions to Smith & Wesson.

In April, Gemtech’s owner, Ron Martinez, told the Statesman that Gemtech sells silencers in 24 countries and makes steady sales to military and law enforcement customers. Silencers are legal in Idaho and many other states but they must be licensed.

Gemtech reportedly had “dozens” of employees in April and planned to buy new equipment and build a larger headquarters.

According to Ammoland, the acquisition would close this summer and Martinez would continue as general manager.
