Priefert, which manufactures steel farm, ranch and rodeo equipment, will open a warehouse and distribution center near the Boise Airport.

The company will lease 20,000 square feet in a former Boise Cascade building at 1675 W. Commerce St. where it will have rail access.

Priefert will hire three or four employees initially, then ramp up to 10 as its distribution center gets up to speed, said Lisa Holland, spokeswoman for the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, which announced the expansion. Priefert employs 950 at its factory in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

“From what we’ve learned, we hope they will bring some manufacturing processes here in the next few years,” Holland said.

Chris Shipp, general manager of Priefert’s steel division, said expanding to Boise makes sense because the company is already shipping to the Northwest.

“Our expansion to Boise will help control costs by providing Priefert an opportunity to save freight costs and ship multiple products produced in Mount Pleasant, Texas to our key customers and dealers utilizing rail transportation,” Shipp said in a news release.
