A U.S. Senator from Missouri says she is worried that President Obama's interest in doing well in the South could bring the 2012 Democratic National Convention to Charlotte, rather than St. Louis.
In addition, says Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, she is concerned over not hearing any rumors from Democratic Party officials responsible for deciding on a site for the event.
Charlotte, St. Louis, Minneapolis and Cleveland are the finalists for the 2012 convention, but several analysts have said in recent weeks that the competition largely is between Charlotte and St. Louis. A decision was to have been announced in mid-January, but it was postponed by the Jan. 8 shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
The decision now is not expected before President Obama's State of the Union speech Tuesday.
