Creation Museum to build theme park in Kentucky

FRANKFORT — Gov. Steve Beshear announced plans Wednesday morning for a new tourist attraction in Northern Kentucky that will include a wooden ark and a theme park.

The governor made the announcement Wednesday morning during a news conference at the Capitol Building in Frankfort. Representatives of Answers in Genesis, which opened the Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky about three years ago, will partner with other investors in the project.

The park, called the Ark Encounter, will be on 800 acres off Interstate 75 in Grant County and is expected to be complete by 2014.

The $150 million project is expected to create more than 900 full-time and part-time jobs after its completion and attract 1.6 million visitors in the first year, with the number increasing after five years.

Beshear said the state received an application for tax incentives Wednesday morning.

"We are all very positive, initially, about this application and we don't really see any problems in getting it approved," Beshear said.
