The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Around 3 p.m a mortar round hit a mosque in Karrada, central Baghdad on Wednesday. Four civilians were injured.

Around 9:30 a.m. a parked car bomb targeted civilians in an open air vegetables market in the town of al Bat'ha to the northeast of Nasiriyah on Wednesday. Twenty seven people were killed and at least 50 others were wounded.

Nineveh

Iraqi Security forces caught an insurgent while he was planting a roadside bomb in al Muthanna intersection in central Mosul early Wednesday.

A U.S. military convoy opened fire on a suspect civilian car in New Mosul in southern Mosul Wednesday. The car exploded. The U.S. military then cordoned off the area. No further details were available at time of publication.

Around noon a roadside bomb targeted a U.S. military convoy near the Mosul University campus on Wednesday. No casualties were reported.

Kirkuk

Two insurgents were killed while they were attempting to plant a roadside bomb on the route between the villages of al Atshana and al Hameediyah to the northwest of Kirkuk City. The bomb exploded unexpectedly and killed them both instantly.
