Treasure Valley gardening activities include classes on canning and herbs

Harness the Harvest: Canning 101: 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Boise Public Library, 715 S. Capitol Blvd. Join Tricia Carney, University of Idaho’s Master Food Safety Advisor, to learn how to safely preserve a variety of foods. She’ll cover basic canning techniques, supplies, the importance of research-based recipes, and where to find information. Free. 972-8200.

Culinary Herbs: 6:30 p.m. at Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise. Elizabeth Dickey, IBG Education Director, will discuss how to grow annual and perennial herbs, how to preserve herbs for future use, and share a variety of ways to use them in cooking. $20 IBG members, $25 nonmembers.
