Gardening calendar: Low-water landscaping and more

May 30

Spring Clean-Up Day: 9 a.m. to noon at Sawtooth Botanical Garden, 11 Gimlet Road, Ketchum. Volunteers needed for projects around the grounds and in the visitor’s center, followed by a free barbecue. June 9

Low-Water Landscape: 7 p.m. at Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise. This class will focus on how to achieve a low-water landscape that looks great in the Treasure Valley. Information regarding climate and the pressures of population growth will set the stage for a discussion about landscaping techniques that conserve water. $12 IBG members, $17 nonmembers. 343-8649, idahobotanicalgarden.org.

June 10

Plant Propagation: 7 p.m. at Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise. In this hands-on workshop, learn the principles of plant propagation using cuttings from IBG. Experience the entire process from making a proper cut to potting the rooted cutting. $20 IBG members, $25 nonmembers. 343-8649, idahobotanicalgarden.org.

Firewise Landscape: 7 p.m. at Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise. Learn ways to create a defensible space which reduces the risk of wildfire damage to your home. Brett Van Paepeghem, South Idaho Project Manager, Idaho Firewise, will discuss the principles of flammable materials reduction, water conservation techniques and creating landscape zones. $12 IBG members, $17 nonmembers. 343-8649, idahobotanicalgarden.org.
