Introduction to Small Landscapes: 6:30 p.m. at the Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise. This two-part, four-hour class will provide an introduction to the “artful hobby” of creating small landscapes, or Bonsai by many other names. Wednesday will focus on the art form and history, suitable plant material, soils, hydration, everyday and special tools, pots, wiring, and pruning. Saturday, July 15, will be an adventure in pruning your own juniper, a great plant for starting out. A list of what to bring that day will be provided during part I. $35 general, $30 IBG members. Hypertufa Trough Workshop: 6 p.m. at the Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise. Rebecca Needles, IBG events operations manager, will show you how to create your own trough using a cement, perlite and peat moss mixture.
