Here’s an easy recipe from the Boise School District’s food and nutrition services team. The banana peach smoothie was first served at several elementary sites in the district as part of celebrations at the end of the 2014-15 school year. Those parties honored some of the kids and classrooms for their participation in the National School Breakfast Week collage contest.
The smoothie was part of a healthy breakfast that also included fresh fruit, fruit and grain bars, and milk.
The smoothie received rave reviews — and that’s good news for high school students in the Boise District. This smoothie flavor and possibly others will be added to the senior high menu sometime next school year.
“It’s our plan to add them to the senior high menu this fall. We think they will love them,” said Katie Chadband, food and nutrition services assistant supervisor.

BANANA PEACH SMOOTHIE
2 cups low-fat or fat-free vanilla yogurt
1 1/3 cup orange juice
4 frozen petite bananas (peeled)
2 cups frozen canned peaches (drained)
Remove peaches from freezer and allow to thaw for about 45 minutes.
Remove frozen bananas from freezer 15 minutes prior to making smoothies and chop into small pieces.
Combine all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth.
This recipe yields four 12-ounce servings.
