Recipe: Pizza Burgers

Sometimes you feel like pizza.

Sometimes you feel like burgers.

This Better Homes and Gardens combines both these American favorites in to one easy recipe.

Who says you can’t have it both ways?

Pizza Burgers

Yield: 4 servings

1 egg

1/4 cup rolled oats

2 tablespoons catsup

3/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 pound lean ground beef

4 ounces reduced-fat mozzarella cheese, sliced

Lettuce leaves (optional)

Tomato slices (optional)

Catsup and/or other condiments (optional)

4 whole wheat buns or Kaiser rolls, split and toasted

In a medium mixing bowl beat egg slightly with a fork. Stir in the oats, 2 tablespoons catsup, dried Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Add ground beef; mix well. Shape mixture into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.

Place patties on the unheated rack of a broiler pan. Broil 3 to 4 inches from the heat for 12 to 14 minutes or an instant-read thermometer inserted in side of patty registers 160 degrees F, turning once. Top with cheese; broil about 1 minute more or until cheese is melted.
