Masala Bistro opened in early July in the former A Taste of Thai spot, 8053 W. Emerald St., near Boise Towne Square mall.

The full-service restaurant specializes in the cuisine of northern India, but diners also can taste spicy dishes from Goa and other parts of the country.

The menu runs the gamut of typical Indian offerings. Appetizers include paneer pakoras ($3.99; fried homemade cheese with a chickpea batter), chicken pakoras ($4.99) and onion bhaji ($3.99).

Expect to find clay-oven items such as chicken tikka ($11.99), lamb kabobs ($13.99) and tandoori shrimp marinated in yogurt, garlic and ginger ($13.99).

Clear your sinuses with some lamb vindaloo ($13.50) sided with a basket of garlicky naan bread ($2.25) for soaking up the fiery curry sauce.

Vegetarians are in luck here, as well, thanks to a large selection of meatless options.

Check out the well-stocked lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and the dinner buffet from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Both buffets are $11.99 per person.
