Eagle barbecue restaurant closes

After a five-year run of smoked brisket and Southern hospitality, MickeyRay’s BBQ has closed in Eagle.

Owner Mickey Shields said the lease for the restaurant at 395 W. State St. ended Sept. 19, and he decided not to renew it. Shields also operates MickeyRay’s at 980 N. Milwaukee St. in Boise. The combined workload translated into excessively long hours, he said.

“I’ve got the one over on Milwaukee that’s doing fine,” he said, “and got our catering, the mobile thing, and I just did not want to sign another five-year lease.”

MickeyRay’s ’cue is a popular choice among local smoked-meat enthusiasts. The eatery won second place in the Best Barbecue category of the Idaho Statesman’s Best of Treasure Valley readers’ poll this year.

MickeyRay’s in Boise is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
