Nancy Guthrie Update: Reporter Challenges Viral $500K Claim About Savannah Guthrie

On Brian Entin Investigates on June 9, 2026, NewsNation reporter Brian Entin challenged the widely reported claim that Savannah Guthrie spent $500,000 on a private investigator to help with the investigation into her mother's disappearance.

The claim was first reported last month, when defense attorney Donna Rotunno appeared on a panel at CrimeCon with Fox News Digital's Michael Ruiz, Fox Nation's Paul Mauro, and investigator Josh Ritter. She claimed that Guthrie had spent half a million dollars enlisting the help of private investigators since Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

"So that tells me [Savannah Guthrie is] not satisfied," she said. "And I don't think she has a lot of faith in where law enforcement has taken us to this point."

British journalist Rob Shuter also made a post on SubStack including various anonymous sources that claimed money "doesn't matter right now" to Savannah Guthrie, and that she "refuses to rely solely on law enforcement." Shuter's sources claimed that "[Guthrie] expected urgency and direct communication. Instead, she feels the investigation became distant and procedural."

However, Entin now disputes the claim that Guthrie has spent $500,000 on private investigators.

"There was a report that Savannah Guthrie had hired private investigators-and I think the report said, like, spent $500,000 on private investigators," he explained. "The report kind of went everywhere. I saw a lot of people talking about it. And I have now confirmed that that is not true. Savannah Guthrie did not spend $500,000 on private investigators. It is just the Pima County Sheriff's Office and the FBI that are investigating this case right now."

Crucially, Entin did not counter that the Guthrie family had spent no money on private investigators-simply that Rotunno's previously reported figure of $500,000 is incorrect, and there are no private investigators currently active in the case.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026, and remains missing. The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI have launched an official investigation into her whereabouts, ruling that Guthrie was abducted forcibly from her home.

Anybody with information is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff's Department in Arizona at (520) 351-4900. The Guthrie family is currently offering a reward of $1 million for any information that leads to Nancy's return. The FBI is offering a further $100,000.
