Got the blues? Not if you dig blazing guitar licks. Left-handed string burner Matthew Curry headlines the Boise Blues Festival, which is a must-see for fans of the genre. The free event (canned food donations are requested) essentially is an amped-up, rebranded version of the Boise Blues Society’s annual picnic. Also on the bill in this order: Freudian Slip, Hoochie Coochie Men and the Ben Rice Trio. A rising star, Curry has opened for Peter Frampton, the Steve Miller Band and the Doobie Brothers. The 20-year-old isn’t just an ax slinger, either; he’s a singer with a confident, raspy edge. The kid is sick, sick, sick.
Noon to 6 p.m. July 19, Julia Davis Park, 700 S. Capitol Blvd., Boise. Admission is three canned goods for The Idaho Foodbank. boisebluesfestival.com.
