They’re a small army. They play “Gulf Coast soul.” And with the possible exception of Boise’s Hollow Wood, they’re the highlight of this summer’s Alive After Five concert series. “Make Some Room” in your schedule next week for The Suffers (and check out that terrific song on YouTube). Got a soft spot for Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings? You’ll dig The Suffers. Vocalist Kam Franklin told the Idaho Statesman that she has no problem being compared to Jones — that “it’s an honor even to be mentioned in the same sentence as her.” Nevertheless, The Suffers bring their own brand of groove. You should bring dancing shoes.
5 to 8 p.m. July 8, Grove Plaza, N. 8th and W. Main streets, Boise. Opening: Afrosonics. Downtownboise.org. Free.
