It ain’t often that you see an acoustic guitarist toting a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. But Kyle Gass — whose Kyle Gass Band performs Sunday at the Knitting Factory — isn’t your typical headbanger. As an occasional actor and half of musical comedy duo Tenacious D (with vocalist-guitarist Jack Black), Gass brings an unorthodox resume, to say the least. The Kyle Gass Band, formed in 2011, is less heavy metal than Tenacious D — but still plenty rockin’. Gass is a fan of the craft of songwriting, so he brings an ear for anthems to humorous tunes such as “Manchild,” “Bro Ho” and “Our Job to Rock.”

7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, Knitting Factory, 416 S. 9th St., Boise. Free tickets by listening to 100.3 FM The X.
