New outdoor Boise concert series coming to Memorial Stadium (starting with Barenaked Ladies)

Summer is months away, but concert promoters already are starting to sling suntan lotion around.

Boise-based Knitting Factory Presents has announced a new outdoor series at Memorial Stadium, 5600 Glenwood St., home to the Boise Hawks.

The first show announced for the series, called “Summerfield Concerts,” is Barenaked Ladies, OMD and Howard Jones. Check out the Summerfied Concerts website here.

The concert will start at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at TicketWeb. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday for $47.50 general-admission lawn, $59.50 general-admission seated.

Barenaked Ladies have played Boise many times before — at the Idaho Botanical Garden’s Outlaw Field. Now that Knitting Factory no longer books Outlaw Field shows, the promoter is taking its act crosstown.

So what’s the deal with the Summerfield Concert series? Here’s the take from Knitting Factory’s press release: “Located at Memorial Stadium, home of the Boise Hawks, Summerfield Concerts puts a new spin on America’s favorite pastime; bringing music to the outfield! Offering a unique outdoor concert setting, this summer amphitheater provides all the amenities concert goers are looking for - from local food trucks to free parking (and lots of it!). Hosting a wide range of artists from May through October, join us for our debut season at Summerfield.”
