Michael Deeds: 5 Things You Should Do This Weekend in Boise

1. GO WITH THE GLOW

The annual Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is in full swing at Ann Morrison Park. One of the highlights is the family-friendly Nite Glow bash, which starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. If you go, remember to enter the park from Americana Boulevard, even though the hot-air balloons have been moved east this year. (Video: VSQRD Creative.)

2. GO TAILGATE

The drama-packed Washington Huskies-Boise State Broncos football game on Friday, Sept. 4, is sold out, but flat-screen TVs and grills will be blazing in the parking lot outside Albertsons Stadium. Kickoff is at 8:15 p.m. Wanna get an early start? Hit up the season kickoff bash from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Boise Spectrum.

3. EAT RED DIRT

Texas and Red Dirt country singer Wade Bowen gets it. We don’t need any more freaking songs about pickup trucks. Check out Bowen on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Knitting Factory.

4. RIDE (OR RELAX)

Noooooo! The final summer-event day at Bogus Basin is Saturday, Sept. 5. Enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery by hopping on the Deerpoint Chair from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An all-day pass is $25. Single rides are $10. Live music will fill the air from 1 to 7 p.m. at the amphitheater. And you can dine at Simplot Lodge between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

5. PARTY UNDERGROUND

Get your EDM fix with veteran house DJ Donald Glaude. He’ll kick out the jams Friday, Sept. 4, at Crowbar in Downtown Boise (9:30 p.m., $7). The room used to be called Grainey’s Basement, so I expect something sort of like this ...
