Michael Deeds: 5 Things You Should Do This Weekend in Boise

1. CARRY THE TORCH

Raise a pint with local breweries on May 17, the final day of American Craft Beer Week. The Brew O’lympics will feature all sorts of zany, fun competitions at Crooked Flats ranging from corn hole to keg tossing. Let’s remember to keep things friendly, OK, Brian Shaw? (YEAAAAH! YEAAAAH!)

2. RIDE THE BIKE

Boise Bike Week ends soon, but not before a couple of fun events May 16. Grab a bicycle and join the Pedal Power Parade, a kickoff for the Boise GreenBike bike share program. Then listen to local band Tractorbeam and hit a food truck at the Boise Bike Week Block Party afterward.

3. BE A HIPPIE

Tie-dye? Check. Patchouli oil? Check. Rain in the forecast? Check. This will be the final year for the Eagle Island Experience. Organizers have grown tired of cooler temperatures and moisture, for one thing. Can the weather gods please just cooperate this last time?

4. NOSH ON RUSSIAN GRUB

In the mood for a kebab? You’ll find plenty of those May 15 and 16 at the ninth annual Russian Food Festival, along with other selections from Boise’s Russian community. Will “herring under fur coat” be on the menu? (Note to festival organizers: If you’d create an event flier, I wouldn’t be forced to fill space by posting videos like the one below. Heh.)

5. TELL ME WHERE TO GO

When to go, I mean! When to go! Rapper E-40 will get the rumps shaking May 15 at the Revolution Center, where he’ll remind us all about that mid-2000s hyphy movement.
