10 Barrel Brewing surprises Boiseans with free-beer vending machine

Tired of the same ol' choices in your office vending machine?

Take a peek outside. 10 Barrel Brewing Co. might just make your day.

The Bend, Ore.-based brewery with a brewpub in Downtown Boise is at the tail end of a week-long tour of the Northwest via van. Marketing guru Cory Eisele is hauling a vending machine from city to city, showing up in random spots and distributing free, ice-cold bottles of 10 Barrel's summer beer, Swill.

The machine is extremely cool. You insert your ID, it verifies your age, then it dispenses the frosty beverage at the bottom: ker-plunk!

"You should see people's faces — the reaction is priceless," Eisele says.

After I tweeted about the machine being in Boise, it magically appeared in the Idaho Statesman parking lot today for a few minutes. Eisele says he's headed to the Capitol next, then to other parts of Downtown. He also mentioned trying to stop at Boise State's campus and in the Hyde Park Historic District today.

Then it's back to Bend tomorrow. Too bad he couldn't leave the machine in Boise.
