Chains invade Eagle: This popular restaurant opened; another has broken ground

Despite rapid growth in the Boise area, Eagle has managed to retain much of its small-city dining charm.

While Meridian has experienced a proliferation of national chains, Eagle has been nothing like its neighbor down the road.

But two brands expanding to the city show that times are changing. Love ’em or loathe ’em, popular chains are coming.

Panera Bread opened its first Eagle store Sept. 25 at 722 S. Edgewood Lane. The new restaurant is part of the East End Marketplace development off Idaho 44 in southeastern Eagle.

Known for bakery-style food including sandwiches, soups and salads, Panera Bread offers many of the modern fast-casual conveniences that customers expect. Those include “digital ordering and mobile pick-up lane convenience,” according to a press release, “ideal for order-ahead. Service channels include dine-in, drive-thru, delivery and catering.”

But Panera Bread is just the appetizer for Eagle. Because something bigger is coming next: Chick-fil-A.

The fast-casual chicken powerhouse has broken ground in the same shopping center, according to Laura Williams, spokesperson for the city of Eagle.

Chick-fil-A’s restaurant is set to open in early 2026 in East End Marketplace, according to a prepared statement from Chick-fil-A, Inc. “We look forward to joining the community and serving all our guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality and care,” it added.

Chick-fil-A has restaurants in Boise, Nampa and Meridian. In January, Chick-fil-A opened its second Meridian location, this one at 567 S. Innovation Lane — Ten Mile Road and Vanguard Way.

Chick-fil-A is America’s third-largest quick-service restaurant company, according to a press release, “known for its freshly prepared food, signature hospitality and unique franchise model. More than 200,000 team members are employed by independent owner-operators in more than 3,000 restaurants across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.”
