Sports-themed restaurant from Arizona now open in Boise with steakburgers, ‘lobsta’ rolls
With baseball jerseys hanging on the walls and TVs filled with hoops and gridiron action, a new restaurant yelled “Play ball!” Wednesday in Boise.
Matty G’s Steakburgers & Lobsta’ Rolls has opened in the former Meltz Extreme Grilled Cheese building at 6565 W. Fairview Ave.
“Known for its mouth-watering steakburgers, buttery lobsta’ rolls, foot-long hot dogs, crispy chicken, fresh salads, bold wraps and irresistible street food, Matty G’s offers an elevated twist on classic American comfort food,” a press release says. “Not only will Matty G’s serve up fantastic food, but Boise’s location will also be a paradise for sports enthusiasts.”
Other than the newly opened Idaho restaurant, there’s only one other Matty G’s — in Mesa, Arizona. It’s rated 4.3 out of 5.0 stars on both Google and Yelp.
But Matty G’s soon will open a second Treasure Valley location at 2826 S. Eagle Road in Eagle (the recently shuttered Zeeks Pizza spot). That should happen within two or three weeks, Matty’s G’s founder Matthew Gorman said.
A family-friendly destination, Matty G’s was inspired by Gorman’s childhood watching sports on TV with his father and grandfather, and by his college years working as a server and bartender.
The Boise menu is filled with a huge array of steakburgers such as the All-Star: two patties, fry sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato. All steakburgers and other sandwiches come with choice of fries (french, garlic, sweet potato or french fry dippers and Matty G’s sauce). Most burgers cost $17 or $18 with the exception of the gargantuan Texas Ranger ($27): three patties, grilled pastrami, pepperjack, American, ghost pepper and swiss cheeses, grilled onions and fry sauce on Texas toast.
Matty G’s also offers a large selection of hot dogs, salads, wraps, street food — and, of course, “lobsta’ rolls,” in four varieties.
Expect to pay $18 for the Red Legs roll, which includes “lobsta’” salad, crab and shrimp, according to the menu. All rolls are served in a six-inch hoagie with cucumber, daikon radish and spring mix drizzled with garlic butter — and choice of sauce. They come with a side: the same fry options as burgers.
Customers 10 or younger can partake in the kids menu, with $9 options such as Bad News Bears: three chicken tenders with ranch dressing.
For grown-ups, craft beers are on tap and wine is sold. Matty G’s does not have a liquor license (technically making it more sports restaurant than bar).
The Boise location is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with games showing on eight TVs.
But if Monday Night Football or a Boise State game goes a little later? The restaurant will stay open until it ends, Gorman said.
