Boise’s first food truck park moved to a permanent location last year. Now it’s closing

The Switchback has pulled the plug.

After five years at Harris Ranch, the seasonal food truck park is done.

The East Boise hangout has decided not to return in 2024, owner Courtney Santillan revealed on social media.

Last April, The Switchback announced that it had moved to a “permanent location” in the neighborhood — on South Perrault Way between Warm Springs Avenue and Parkcenter Boulevard — and had “big plans in the works for a building.”

But the challenges have become too difficult.

“As the story goes, we’ve moved our operation around as the neighborhood continued to develop and last year, with the help of our friends and business partners, we were able to open on what we hoped would be a long-term location,” Santillan wrote Feb. 13 on The Switchback’s Facebook page. “It is now, with an array of emotions, difficult to announce that we will not be opening The Switchback. As a small business, it is difficult to navigate the conflicting policy and financial burdens from so many various agencies.

“The hardest part of this decision is thinking about the laughter of friends, the music we danced to, and stories we shared with the people, families, and dogs we were so fortunate to get to know. We will always be proud of the community we created and felt so loved by all of you over the past five years. Becoming Boise’s first food truck park will always be a fond memory.”

Looking for an alternative? Green Acres Food Truck Park, 1401 Shoreline Drive, plans to reopen in April, its website says.
