Is the music at Alive After Five too tame to lure you to the Grove Plaza?
No prob. You still have an excuse to spill a beer on those fancy bricks this summer. In fact, spill two. Small cups of beer won’t cost anything at the Scallywag! festival — at least for the first few hours.
Headlined by established punk and ska acts Bad Religion, Pennywise, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake and The Interrupters, the raucous party will invade the Grove Plaza and CenturyLink Arena on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Using a model similar to last year’s Punk in Drublic concert at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater, Scallywag! will open early (noon for VIP, 1 p.m. for general admission) and offer unlimited tastings of more than 100 kinds of craft beer until 4 p.m., both outdoors and indoors. After that, you’ll have to buy alcohol. The festival is slated to go until 10 p.m.

During the day, a local band and DJ will crank tunes outdoors in the Grove Plaza, where local taco vendors will sell spicy Mexican sustenance to soak up beer. Need to cool off? Roll into air-conditioned CenturyLink Arena, where the five headlining bands will perform starting mid-afternoon.
Scallywag! tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at CTTouring or Ticketfly, or in person at the Record Exchange, 1010 Main St. They’ll cost $39.50 (first 1,000 sold), $49.50 (next 1,000) and $59.50. If you want to start sampling free beers at noon, you’ll need a $99.50 VIP/Early Entry ticket (only 500 available.) Otherwise, you’ll be waiting until at least 1 p.m.
