5 Things to Do This Weekend in Boise

1. SHAKE IT UP

Sandpoint-raised sisters Laurie and Katelyn Shook will be in Boise to headline Neurolux on Friday night. The Shook Twins’ quirky, folksy tunes and elegant vocal harmonies will pack the place. Update: This show has sold out in advance.

2. FREE YOUR MIND

Grab a kid and head to Innovation Day, a free event from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Jack’s Urban Meeting Place (JUMP). Check out 100 imaginative inventions at the annual Invent Idaho regional competition. (Why weren’t we that smart in grade school?) Or get hands-on and test drive VEX IQ robotics with Les Bois Junior High students.

3. REMEMBER PAUL

I still struggle to accept the tragic loss of Paul Tillotson. I know his fans feel the same way. Share fond memories and celebrate the release of Tillotson’s posthumous album, “Live at the Lock — Volume 1,” at CD release parties Friday in Ketchum and Saturday in Boise.

4. TASTE ITALY

Neapolitan pizza is the focus at Pizzeria Sazio, which opened Thursday afternoon on the Boise Bench at Kootenai Street and Vista Avenue. It’s in the same space as the now-defunct, much-loved Casanova Pizzeria. My question: Which Neopolitan pizza parlor in Boise will be the first to get certified?

5. PARTY IN THE SNOW

The annual McCall Winter Carnival, which kicks off Friday, will bury you in a blizzard of frigid entertainment: snow sculptures, parades, winter sports, food. Get the scoop (or the snow shovel) about highlights here.
