Treasure Valley book events include author event, story times

Story times: Area public libraries offer story programs for children of all ages. Go to their websites and click on the calendar to check out the offerings.

BLiP Reading Series: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, Rediscovered Books, 180 N. 8th St., Boise. BLiP is a monthly reading series that features work by local playwrights. This month’s reading is of “Ladies First” by Joe Golden. Free. Donations suggested to help support HomeGrown Theatre.

Book Club for Adults: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, Boise Public Library Hillcrest branch, 5246 W. Overland Road. This month’s selection: “The Kitchen House” by Kathleen Grissom.

Author event: 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, Boise Public Library main branch, 715 S. Capitol Blvd. Author Laura Lee Yates and musician Harry Harpoon will perform an hour-long presentation of readings from their book, “Bound for the Western Sea: The Canine Account of the Lewis and Clark Expedition” and performance of historical music and songs from the era. Copies of the book and CD will be available for purchase.

Bookstore 10th Birthday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, Rediscovered Books, Boise. Ongoing activities all day, including book bingo, live music and free food and refreshment. Special deals all day: 15 percent off kids lit, kids sci-fi and kids picture books, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; teen lit and teen sci-fi, 1-4 p.m.; literature, nature, memoir, history, health, science, nature and mystery, 4-8 p.m.
