Treasure Valley book event calendar: Aug. 7-13

Story times: The Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Garden City, Kuna, Ada, Caldwell and Nampa public libraries offer story programs for children of all ages. Go to their websites and click on the calendar to check out the offerings.

Coffee and a Classic Book Club: 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, Meridian Library, 1326 W. Cherry Lane. “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers. Coffee and refreshments will be served. No registration is required.

Tween Creative Writing Club: 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, Meridian Library at Cherry Lane. Writers ages 9-12 work on writing projects, learn writing techniques and read and critique each other’s work in a safe and supportive environment.

Writers Bloc: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, Meridian Library at Cherry Lane. Join a group of fellow writers to collaborate, critique and create together. Work on what it means to be writers in the Treasure Valley. Contact Alexi at asprague@mld.org for information.

Poetry Slam: 8-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, Meridian Library Silverstone branch, 3531 E. Overland Road. Sign-ups at 7:30, slam starts at 8.

Book Club: 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, Garden City Public Library, 6015 N. Glenwood St. “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson.

Book & Booze: 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, Rediscovered Books, 180 N. 8th St., Boise. Rediscovered Books partners with LongDrop Cider Co. for an evening of cider and book talk. Tickets are $25 and include one copy of a staff pick, cider tasting and a LongDrop cider to take home.

Josh Gross author event: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, Rediscovered Books, Boise. Speak with Oregon author Josh Gross about his new memoir, “The Funeral Papers.”

Jonah Lisa Dyer author event: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, Barnes & Noble, 1315 N. Milwaukee, Boise. Jonah Lisa Dyer will be signing her debut teen book “The Season,” a contemporary retelling of “Pride and Prejudice.”
